This is one of the paintings that I did for The Nature Conservancy. Based upon the Nanjemoy Preserve in Southern Charles County Maryland, this is a "composite" painting where I have created a scene that shows the two significant treasures of this particular property. In the distance are the ghostly images of the Great Blue Heron nests for this was recently the largest nesting area on the East Coast. However, for the past two years the herons have roosted elsewhere, no one quite knows where. A more recent discovery is that the Najemoy Creek houses a rare and almost extinct fresh water mussel. It is currently exhibited at the Athenaeum Gallery in Old Town, Alexandria, VA.
